Infrared radiation is one
of the many types of radiation among the spectrum of electromagnetic
energy. All electromagnetic energies are transferred through
wavelengths. These wavelengths determine how dangerous the
radiation is to humans and other animals. The shorter the
wavelength the more harmful it is, such as gamma waves.
Infrared radiation is a long range like radio
waves and microwaves, which pose very little danger to humans
and animals. Although electromagnetic energy is not visible,
you are able to feel the heat from some of its sources. Utlraviolet
waves, which are transmitted from the sun are an example of
electromagnetic waves that transmit heat, They are another
example of short waves, and as many of us are aware, ultraviolet
waves are very harmful causing skin cancer. Infrared offers
many beneficial uses by utilizing the wavelengths to transmit
data.
One ways that infrared is employed is night
vision, which provides images through bouncing infrared waves
off of items. Objects containing heat will send back an outline
or signature that shows the area defined by the heated subject,
such as a person or animal |
