The theme of the event is "A Christmas Carol" and will feature an abundance of holiday floats, marching units and bands -- a special appearance by the Racine Kilties Drum & Bugle Corps is a new exciting addition to the parade this year.  We also have a commitment from the South Shore Drill Team, an annual favorite and the star of the show, Santa Claus.

NEW ROUTE - This spectacular event will start at Hwy. 60 & Sixth Avenue east to 12th Avenue and south on Wisconsin Avenue and will END at 7th Avenue and Wisconsin (this is at Little Cesar's Pizza & Sears).  A dedicated committee of Chamber and community volunteers has been working since spring to make this parade generously sponsored by YOUR businesses the best yet!

  •  Community Christmas Party & Auction  5 P.M. - Social    6 P.M. - Dinner

Your Chamber will honor Dave Antoine with the Outstanding Citizen Award and the Grafton Lion's Club with the Outstanding Community Group Award.  A silent auction will be held throughout the evening to benefit the Chamber Scholarship Fund.  Join your friends, co-workers, and fellow Chamber members at Circle B Recreation.  $20.00 per person (cash bar), sit-down dining and entertainment capped off by a voice auction of high quality items.  RSVP by November 17 with payment and names of persons attending to:  Christmas Party, P. O. Box 132, Grafton, WI  53024.  Your tickets will be held at the door.

From the Chamber President . . . Sharon Irwin

                             Ozaukee Bank
Well, one down . . . one to go!
That's what it feels like for your busy Chamber of Commerce.

One a rainy weekend in September, a dedicated group of individuals presented our Third Annual Grafton Grand Prix.  This years event was a little heartbreaking to the organizing committee due to Mother Nature's abundance of precipitation.  But, everyone pulled together as best they could during Friday's rain, came back Saturday and pulled off the entire competition in a timely and professional manner.

A big thanks goes out to Paul Leyton and his group of talented volunteers whose dedication to this event was invaluable.  Rain or shine, the community was still "a buzz" with Grand Prix talk long after the final checkered flag.

Now for more family fun, let's start singing those "Christmas Carols" because here come the Grafton Holiday Events.  This years event chair Dave Antoine and co-chair Liz Fischer have been meeting regularly with their committee to put together our annual festivities.

Don't miss any of the fun starting with our Community Christmas Tree Lighting on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  Then, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, plan on attending Breakfast With Santa just prior to the county's largest holiday parade and end your day celebrating the presentation of Grafton's Outstanding Citizen Award and Community Group Award for the year 2000 at our holiday dinner party.  I'll guarantee a great time.  (I cannot guarantee the weather, but I will cross my fingers!)

As the year 2000 comes to an end, I hope everyone has succeeded in achieving his or her goals for the first year of the new century and will find even greater happiness in the years to come.  Make sure to take time to reflect and give thanks for all the good things you have.  Cherish your family and friends and create memories to last forever.

Until next year!  Best regards,

Sharon Irwin

DAVE ANTOINE IS GRAFTON'S OUTSTANDING CITIZEN

One of the nominators stated in his letter, "I truly believe that Dave is an outstanding representative of Grafton and would make an excellent choice for the outstanding citizen award.  One thing that I am very certain of with Dave is that he does not look for personal recognition for any of the things that he volunteers for.  He simply cares very much about the Grafton community.  I believe that Dave is one of our greatest assets!"

Caring, volunteering and saying "yes" has been a way of life for Dave Antoine over the years that he has lived in Grafton.  St. Joseph's Church and School, the Grafton Little League, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and your Chamber of Commerce are among the groups that have benefited from Dave's can do spirit and sense of pride in the community he calls home.  His wife of twenty-five years, Nan, and children Nicole and Geoff can usually be found at his side at the functions for which he volunteers, exhibiting his great sense of family values.

Dave, through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee County, has shared these family values.  Dave has been matched as a "Big Brother" for nine years; he serves on the Board of Directors; has been the organization's President; has chaired the Golf for Kids, the Bowl for Kids and has been Public Relations Chairman.  He has also served on the committee for the Berry Big Run.

As an involved member of St. Joseph's Church, Dave served on the School Board holding the office of Vice President; chaired the school's Centennial celebration, is on the Funival Committee, and is past chairman of the Grounds and Maintenance Committee.

Dave's first association with the Chamber was as a community volunteer working on the Grafton Christmas Parade.  For many years, he organized the Car Segment of the Parade and was always available to fill any other role as the need arose.  This association lead to his involvement in the Grafton Grand Prix as organizer of the clothing sales and expo area and the Grand Prix Raffle.

As an Account Executive for Hydrite Chemical in Waukesha, Dave has also been involved in professionally related organizations service on the board of directors and as President of the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers.

The Chamber will be recognizing and thanking Dave for the many contributions he has made to Grafton on November 25, as he serves as the Grand Marshal of the Grafton Christmas Parade and receives his Outstanding Citizen recognition at the Community Christmas Party that evening.

The public is invited to the award presentation, which will take place at Circle B Recreation in Cedarburg.  The social hour (cash bar) will begin at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.  The cost for the evening is $20.00 per person.  RSVP to the Grafton Chamber, 262-377-1650, with the names of persons attending by November 17.

Grafton Lion's Club Recognized as Outstanding Community Group

The Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce will recognize the Grafton Lion's Club as Grafton's Outstanding Community Group on November 25 at the Grafton Community Christmas Party.  Each year, the Chamber recognizes a non-profit, volunteer-based group whose mission and plan of work enhances the quality of life in Grafton.

"The Grafton Lion's Club has a long list of community projects and exemplary leaders of this community as members", states one of the nominators of this group for the Outstanding Community Group Award.  The 61 Lions in the Grafton club can be seen throughout the community working the concession stand at the ball park in the summer; building a reading loft in the new children's library; they have donated funds and built the shelter at Veteran's Park; support organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters by sponsoring a team in the Bowl for Kids; and throw hundreds of pounds of candy to spectators at the Grafton Christmas Parade.  Each spring the Lions organize a canoe ride for the visually impaired on the Milwaukee River.

The Club's donations to the community don't stop there; the list goes on to include the "ways" that they achieve their "means".  The annual Chicken Fry not only raises funds that are put back into Grafton, but serves as a great community builder and event.  Dollars raised from this event, along with the sale of Entertainment Books, and providing manpower at a beverage stand at County Fair are used to lend support to Family Sharing, the Grafton Little League, the Grafton Fire Department and the Lion's Camp for the visually impaired in Rosholt, WI to name a few.

Greatly concerned with the youth of this community, each month the Lions honor a Grafton High School student with a Student Achievement Award and give a scholarship each year to an outstanding senior, who has done well academically and contributed volunteer service to the community.

The efforts and priorities of the Grafton Lion's Club have truly enriched Grafton's quality of life.  Please join us as the Chamber of Commerce acknowledges their accomplishments with the Outstanding Community Group Award on November 25.
