infrared is best suited to short range uses, such as wireless
keyboards or remote controls. These devices use similar technology
as optical devices with different limitations.
Although infrared is limited because of the
need for direct contact with what is being transmitted to,
it is still a very useful technology. It provides an excellent
source for intrusion alert systems. The invisible beams provide

Because infrared cannot travel through walls
it is a good source for items such as headsets. Unlike other
wireless technologies, infrared is more private, since the
signal doesn’t transmit as far, and is harder for others
